Here it Comes... Ready or Not!

Today started teacher inservice for us. I must say, I don't feel ready for this year to start. The summer just goes too quickly. We have a lot on our plates this year. We will both be coaching volleyball this fall. Nathan will be coaching JV and I will be coaching varsity. It is such a blessing to be able to coach together. I can't imagine how little I would see him otherwise. We also will be the sponsors for this years junior class. We are excited to be able to help these kids raise money for their senior trip and also to develop better relationships with each of them. They really are a great class.

While I know the year is going to busy, I was thinking today about how I need to put 100% into this school year. We have an awesome opportunity at Westwood to impact our students lives. There are more children in our school who come from broken homes than I honestly think I have known in my entire life. Each year I have the opportunity to teach a Family Life class to the senior girls. Every time I teach the class I am faced with the fact that I can't even begin to understand many of their home situations. I have been privileged to grow up in a family that gave me all of the stability I could ever need. The most stable (earthly) relationship I have ever known has been my parents relationship with each other. I honestly believe that it would be less difficult for me if I lost a parent than if I saw my parents marriage fall apart. The 2 of them just "go" together. While I may not be able to relate to every students situation, I get the opportunity to teach them that "disfunctional" families are not the "norm" nor are they the way God wants our families to work. That is sort of an overwhelming task/opportunity. This year I have decided to make this class my most important class. I know that I need to make sure that I am an example to them with my own marriage but also I need to make sure that I put in adequate time in prayer for each girl. This year there are a few girls who will challenge principles that are being taught to them. I would ask that you pray specifically for this class and that I would have wisdom to teach the appropriate material and choose guest speakers who will challenge and encourage them.

Vacation

Here are a few pictures from our vacation to Michigan. The time always seems to go too fast and I decide I would like it if I never had to return to work.

Family Canoe Trip. Great trip, Great food, volleyball... so fun to spend time all together.

Our first time to Michigan Adventure. It is such a fun relaxed park.

Grand Haven is a beautiful city. We spent one night here and I found my future mansion on the beach :)
